Why We Media Blast?
When performed correctly, media blasting is widely considered the preferred method for restoring log home surfaces. It effectively removes failing finishes, weathered wood fibers, UV damage, and contaminants, exposing clean, sound wood and creating an ideal surface for new stain adhesion.
Unlike chemical stripping or pressure washing, media blasting does not introduce moisture into the logs. This eliminates concerns associated with elevated moisture content, which can delay staining and potentially affect coating performance. It also avoids the risk of residual stripping chemicals remaining on the wood surface or altering the wood's natural pH balance.
Media blasting creates a clean, textured surface that promotes superior stain penetration and adhesion. In contrast, traditional sanding can force fine sawdust into the wood cells, potentially limiting stain absorption. The process is also highly effective in difficult-to-access areas such as log corners, checks, grooves, and other detailed surfaces where sanding tools may not provide consistent results.
The result is a properly prepared substrate that supports the long-term performance and appearance of the finish system.
